Wonder Weapon “Honey”

Wonder Weapon “Honey”

A diligent honeybee collects one to two teaspoons of honey in her entire life. Bees concentrate the collected nectar, add enzymes and thicken the resulting honey in the honeycombs. The result is a long-lasting, high-quality product.

On the culinary front honey wins with its special sweetness, which is not only for desserts. Marinades and sauces also benefit from this unique food. But honey is more than just a golden-yellow sweetener: Honey is antiperspirant  and germ-killing, and not just when you eat it. It contains hydrogen peroxide and thus has a strong disinfecting and hygroscopic effect. It is therefore indispensable in medicine and beauty care. But let us start with the delicious side of honey:

Crispy Spare Ribs:

Ribs and roasts can be refined with a marinade of honey and beer. A small bottle of beer is mixed with two tablespoons of honey and a tablespoon each of mustard, ketchup and soy sauce. The mixture is boiled down to a thick liquid which should be spread regularly on ribs and roasts. The honey makes for a shiny and delicious crust.

Fish Pickling:

Salmon or salmon trout are excellent for pickling with honey and salt. Both deprive the fish of water, which makes it durable and develops an incomparable taste. Pickle a whole fish fillet complete with five tablespoons of honey and five tablespoons of salt. Seasonings such as juniper, peppercorns or chopped ginger can also be used. Wrap the fish fillet tightly in cling wrap and place between two boards. Weigh them down for pressure. Leave the fish in the fridge for at least 24 hrs., but can also stay in the fridge for 2 to 3 days.

Juicy Baking With Honey:

If you use honey when making cakes instead of sugar, you should reduce the amount of liquid by a few tablespoons. The amount of baking soda can thereby be increased to make the cake nice and fluffy. Because of the honey binding liquid the cake will stay nice and moist.

Milk With Honey Against The Onset Of A Cough:

A glass of warm milk with a spoonful of honey is soothing for a dry throat. If coughing with sputum you should abstain from milk, however: Pure honey can help to overcome coughing attacks.

Honey Against Superficial Burns:

It has been proven that honey helps with the healing of burn wounds and blisters. The wounds heal 4 to 5 days faster than from other treatments.

The Yummiest Lip Balm In The World:

Honey works for skin irritations and inflammation. For chapped lips, pure honey can be applied to the lips or it can be used with curd. This way the lips become even more moist.
